As a result of the revised Health Care Assistant (HCA) Core Competency Profile of March 2014 revisions to the Guide were carried out during the fall of 2014 with the guidance of a Steering Committee comprised of representatives from various stakeholder groups. The Health Care Assistant Program Provincial Curriculum Guide 2015 replaces the 2008 version, and consists of both the curriculum guide and a Health Care Assistant Program Provincial Curriculum Supplement 2015. The Health Care Assistant Program is designed to provide students with opportunities to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to function effectively as front-line care-givers, and respected members of the healthcare team, in community and facility settings. Under the direction and supervision of a health professional, graduates provide person-centred care aimed at promoting and maintaining the physical, emotional, cognitive, and social well-being of clients/residents. Upon completion of the program, graduates are prepared to work in a variety of settings, including acute care, home support, adult day care, assisted living, and complex care (including special care units).
