Balance Sheet Formatting

A typical balance sheet should be plain looking, without irregular fonts or colors. All numeric values should be formatted in the same style, usually with a $ in front. (Cell format CURRENCY in EXCEL.) Sub-totals should have one underline and totals should have two. There should be no distracting colors or decorations.

The illustration above does not have any dollar signs in front because it is from a large company where the numbers stand for millions. You will note that it does not have 2 decimal places showing for small change, either. :-)
